Kennedys, Butler and Newsom on same wavelength.

Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

I don’t know really why a Kennedy aristocracy should seem so much more palatable, or why the Kennedy Opinion should matter so much, but the fact is, when someone with the surname Kennedy who hails from New England speaks, people listen.

Caroline Kennedy and Edward Kennedy have both endorsed Obama’s candidacy, joining the ranks of the Arcade Fire’s Win Butler and Joanna Newsom, who recently encouraged Sydneysiders to try to influence their American friends to support Obama. Some people mock musicians using their bully pulpit to talk politics…but there’s no reason to suppose that someone like Win Butler isn’t very interested in–and informed about–politics. So you go, Win!

I think a Clinton in the White House would probably be better than more or less any of the Republicans in the running, but most of the people whose opinions I respect in these matters are supporting Obama. Course I can’t vote in the US. But anyway. I find it interesting that the Kennedys (unlike the New York Times) are supporting Obama, and basing it on the fact that the man has inspired the youth to become involved in a way Hillary has apparently failed to do. They think he’s getting people to “do for their country,” so to speak, and they like it. I like it, too. So you go, Obama! too.
(I know, there should be links, maybe later.)

Blast from the past

Any of you who are in my age group may remember the old Participaction campaign, encouraging Canadian couch potatoes to get out there and do something!

They’ve brought it back, and I think the ads are pretty funny:

Look up some of the others, too, they’re cute!

Saturday night.

Uncategorized | Comments Off

I just spent another Saturday night with Ralph Fiennes and Africa. Sometimes it’s The English Patient, and sometimes it’s The Constant Gardener, but it seems to fit, often enough.

It was an OK day! I woke up early (for a Saturday), around 7. Coffee, dog-walking, cleaned up a bit here and there. The Wallpaper Man came and hung my wallpaper in the dining room (only 18 months since the room has been done) and completed the finishing work on the replacement back door (only…14 months lag on that). My dining room is ready for guests!

Little things make me happy :) sometimes!

What else, this week…the Punk Rock Boy™ came over for a rather good beef stew the other day. We had a nice evening.

I got square with the Tax Man over a few anomalies. That’s a relief. Not that I was feeling like Al Capone or anything.

My little wee iBook has periodic convulsions that do not make me happy, and I’m trying hard not to spend vacation money on a new MacBook (no, not the Air, it’s not really a useful second machine for me. I’m looking at a small MacBook that I can easily travel with and watch movies on and such.). You know, someone wins the lottery basically once each week, I don’t know why I can’t be numbered among those chosen! it’s not like I’m not buying the tickets…

Enzo needs service, and I need to remember this at a time when I can call the Vespa people, since my other option seems to be an option no longer. (OH THE DRAMA. NEVER MIND.)

Not much else springs to mind, other than the fact that I’ve eaten breakfast for dinner (no, not toothpaste) twice in a row, and I like that. Also, at this very moment, Choobie is having some very exciting dream, and squealing in his sleep, bless his little heart. He makes much more noise asleep than awake, Mysterious Dog that he is.

Enjoy your weekend!

Trying to get the live blog happening from cnet, but I’ve had like 6 404s already, half when trying to refresh the liveblog. HEY GET WITH THE PROGRAM, GUYS.

OK Gizomodo wins the liveblog contest, hands down. They may be mad little pranksters, but they are light years ahead of cnet for stuff like this. With pictures.

Ouch, $1800 USD. Dead sexy though!

Skinny indie kids to vote for Obama

Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Pitchfork reads Win Butler’s blog, evidently, and Win is encouraging the kids to vote for Obama, partlly from a desire to avoid the near-monarchic, quasi Tudor-Stuart situation another Clinton presidency would provide. Let’s see, if we had Hillary for eiight years, then Jeb for eight years, we could elect Chelsea in 2024. (I use the term “we” loosely.)

(o_O)

K I’m officially scurred.

And this pinkness…

I must say it’s more virulently, pepto-bismolly, pink on a Windows machine than it is on my Macs. Not sure why! but I apologize to my unenlightened friends for the visual shock.

I hope to get the font colours back where I want them soon.

Oh, and

I’d really like to know why my tagging thing is all verklemmt. It’s pissing me off.

Sigh.

And I’ve buggered it rather with the update, haven’t I? LOL

Whoops.

Ooh, bad bloggers. Bad!

Gawker Media got some unwelcome headlines this week as bloggers on their site, Gizmodo (which I read pretty often) had the poor judgment to prank CES.

Kids, what were you thinking?! Someone’s getting banned and Giz might not be coming back either.

Personally, I’m waiting with bated breath for the Apple thingie next week. I think my wee laptop is going to explode soon, and if they announce the touted supathin one, maybe I’ll be able to more easily see my way clear to a new MacBook.

Not a big entry I think, I’ve spent too much time in this chair today and my back is in HELL but I wanted to share some pics of the hair. And if you know me from otherwhere on the intarwebs then you’ve probably seen them anyway, but SO WHAT!

the hair

So there it is again.

It’s hair, it’s blonde, yeahyeahyeah. No I wasn’t nekkid.

What else this weekend…cleaned up a bit, got a (good!) quote to get some needed stuff done to the house, including the wallpaper in the dining room, FINALLY! *cheers*

more hair

And I like that one too.

I can’t think, I really can’t. Maybe later.

Good Morning, Zagreb!
