What’s Going On?

OK I don’t actually have Marvin Gaye playing, it’s Tears For Fears’ The Hurting, but seriously. What is going on? Africa is exploding and on fire: MSF is pulling out of Somalia, Chad has rebels attempting a coup d’état, Kenya (KENYA!) is rioting for the second week in a row, I mean… when the President of Rwanda says watch out lest you fall into a Rwandan ethnic cleansing situation, I expect it behooves you to listen. Tales of roving youths with machetes are really chilling for anyone who’s read Shake Hands with the Devil.

Meanwhile, the US is concentrating on Iraq (a little) and presidential primaries (a lot). I’m not sure what Mr Harper is concentrating on…how to profit on something or other, probably. Canadian Forces are all strung out in Afghanistan, anyway; I doubt we have the wherewithal (physically or emotionally) to attempt to keep peace in Africa again.

This isn’t my normal topic of conversation but there was a critical mass of Africa headlines, and I just wonder what’s going to happen to all of us.
