Action:

I’ve emailed abuse@ his host (if it indeed is his host) and we’ll see if I get anywhere that way.

Man this pisses me off.

I’m in the same fix right now.

I just don’t see the point. Thanks for the comment, though; there is some comfort in knowing it’s probably just some random asshole. :)

What sort of symptoms is your site having? (I found this blog entry by Googling for the IP responsible; lots of junk referring to that address is showing up in the page source for my WordPress output.)

My site’s an Invision Power message board, and when I try to log in (the site is private), it logs me in and then it kicks me out…there are these weird little squares at various places on the page, and the status line in my browser says “waiting for/connecting” and the IP address. I can’t get in; I can’t get into the admin control panel for the board; and when I went to the unsecure site control panel through my site host, I got the same IP in the browser so I got out of there. The secure UCP at my host seems OK but I realized I didn’t really know how to disable my board that way, I’m a pretty non-technical person.

Meanwhile I haven’t had any action yet from my site host but supposedly the problem has been referred to the correct department.

So they’ve attacked your blog? I don’t understand why people do this kind of thing. Sigh.

    I don’t understand it either.

I had the little squares all over the place. Fortunately, I was working on a blog post when they showed up, so I caught it from the beginning. I found that two lines of code had been added to each PHP script; taking them out made the little squares (which I think are an attempt to do a browser exploit) go away. Your problems may have been more severe than mine (or, perhaps, more is wrong that I haven’t caught yet).

I’m on SiteGround, too, incidentally. I’d chosen them for the sophisticated reason that I hadn’t heard any complaints. . . .
