OK, I didn’t see it, but Letterman probably did cross the line. However, he apologized quite specifically for the fact that while he was joking about the elder daughter, someone might have inferred he meant the younger daughter:

“I would never, never make jokes about [sex with] a 14-year-old girl. I don’t think it’s funny. I would never think it was funny.”

That, of course, was not good enough for the Palin Family Spokeswoman, whose poor choice of words I’ve  mentioned before. Not content with not accepting the apology, the Palins said this:

“It would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.”

Ugly little backhanded smear.  I guess it must be tiring when almost everyone on the planet thinks you’re a punch line.
