I spent an extra day in France, and was lucky enough to have a native host, chauffeur, and tour guide. And chef! I was lucky enough to eat some home cooking, including some of the best pommes frites of my entire trip. We did some sightseeing around Lille, and had a great concert at Main Square, Arras. I don’t have a lot of pictures of the concert, though. We had a pretty decent view, though; we started out sort of close, but the pushing people got too much for us, and it seemed also as though there might be some very un-Radiohead-like discord amongst the fans, so we moved back to where there was something like room to breathe.

the threatened rain just gave us a taste--not much at all
Le Kev. Sorry you're blurry!
Not blurry this time!
former Gare du Nord
€75 per day (€165 for all but I won’t be going to all).
Friday so far includes Neil Young (cool) Moby (decent show, seen him before), The Verve (not my thing), Babyshambles (NMT), Digitalism (noncommittal), and Duffy (no idea).
Not worth €75 for me.
Saturday is more my thing: Radiohead, Sigur Rós, Ben Harper (meh), Kings of Leon (meh), Editors (aight), and a whack of people I can’t be arsed to switch windows to look up and type.
Perhaps I’ll stop in Brugge or Brussels on Friday on my way down from the ‘Dam.
Tickets are onsale Saturday 0900 Continental time. I have to remember to stay up late :p
Realized that I am going to see Sigur Ros AND Radiohead two days in a row. Whoa!
The Main Square fest site has sorted out the bands into nights:
Friday 4 July: Chemical Brothers, Justice, Boyz Noise + guest
Saturday 5 July: Mika, BB Brunes, Digitalism + guest
Sunday 6 July: Radiohead, Sigur Rós, The Dø, The Wombats
Click above for a link to reservez vos billets; I already got mine through waste. I think.
Also, MBV‘s Roskilde date is confirmed (via their site) as Saturday the 5th, so I guess I am hooped basically unless I somehow find enough cash to head back to Paris from Berlin on the 9th. Which seems unlikely. So now I have to hope they come to North America, and that I can afford a ticket. Le sigh.
That’s the rumour, that they’re playing the Main Square fest the same day as Radiohead. I could get behind that.
Now I’m just waiting for a convenient My Bloody Valentine date. Please?
